Citizens Property Insurance Denial of Coverage
Our clients, a St. Petersburg, Florida family residing in a coastal home, suffered significant property damage due to storm-related issues. Their home sustained extensive damage from wind and water, resulting in structural issues and substantial property loss. Despite their valid claim under their Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (Citizens) policy, their claim was denied because of alleged policy exclusions and insufficient evidence of coverage.
When our clients submitted their damage claim to Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, which quickly hired a group of “pocket” engineers and geologists who believed our clients’ damage was not covered under the policy.
After a four-day jury trial, the jury ultimately rendered a verdict in favor of our clients, awarding them every penny that we had requested in our closing arguments. Even beyond awarding our clients everything we asked for, the jury then hand-wrote some additional damages onto their verdict form, which we had (apparently) convinced them to award to our clients!
